Magnesium carbonate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MgCO3, molecular weight 84.31 and relative density 3.037. The appearance is white granular powder. Decomposes at 350°C and loses carbon dioxide at 700°C. Slightly soluble in cold water and slowly soluble in acid. Its trihydrate is a colorless needle-like crystal with a melting point of 165 °C and a relative density of 1.850. Its pentahydrate is a white monoclinic crystal with a relative density of 1.73, which is heated and decomposed in air. Carbon dioxide can be added to the magnesium salt aqueous solution while adding sodium carbonate to obtain hydrate, and the hydrate can be dried below 50 °C to obtain anhydrous.
