Arginine, with the chemical formula C6H14N4O2 and a molecular weight of 174.20, is an amino acid compound. It participates in the ornithine cycle in the human body, promotes the formation of urea, and converts the ammonia produced in the human body into non-toxic urea through the ornithine cycle, which is excreted in the urine, thereby reducing the blood ammonia concentration. There are higher concentrations of hydrogen ions, which help to correct the acid-base balance in hepatic encephalopathy. Together with histidine and lysine, it is a basic amino acid.

1. It is used for biochemical research, all kinds of hepatic coma and viral liver alanine aminotransferase abnormality.
2. As a nutritional supplement and flavoring agent. A heating reaction with sugar (amino-carbonyl reaction) results in a special flavor substance.
3. Arginine is an essential amino acid for maintaining the growth and development of infants and young children. It is an metabolite of the ornithine cycle and promotes the conversion of ammonia to urea, thereby reducing blood ammonia levels.
