Potassium carbonate (K2CO3) is a white salt, soluble in water (insoluble in ethanol) which forms a strongly alkaline solution.
It can be made as the product of potassium hydroxide-'s absorbent reaction with carbon dioxide.
It is deliquescent, often appearing a damp or wet solid.
Potassium carbonate is used in the production of soap and glass.

Applications

The inorganic industry is used to manufacture potassium sodium tartrate, potassium aluminofluorate, potassium thiocyanate, and titanium dioxide. The glass enamel industry is used in the preparation of enamel powder to enhance its leveling, add it to glass to play a melting role, and improve glass transparency and refractive coefficient. The dye industry is used in the manufacture of Yin Dan Tulin, Disperse Red 3B, Reduced Ash M, etc. The printing and dyeing industry is used for the printing and dyeing of vat dyes and the whitening of ice dyeing. The rubber industry is used in the manufacture of 4010 antioxidants. The wool and linen cotton industry is used for cotton cloth boiling and wool degreasing.
Potassium carbonate is one of the important basic inorganic chemical and light industry raw materials, mainly used in the production of optical glass, welding electrodes, electron tubes, TV picture tubes, light bulbs, printing and dyeing, dyes, inks, photography, bubble alkali, explosives, electroplating, tanning, ceramics, building materials, crystals, and potassium soap. It is used as a gas adsorbent, dry powder fire extinguishing agent, and rubber antioxidant. It is also used to remove carbon dioxide from fertilizer syngas. It can also be used as a potassium-containing fertilizer. With the continuous development of high and new technology, the application of potassium carbonate in detergent aids, monosodium glutamate, food and other fields is also expanding.
Potassium carbonate is mainly used in the manufacture of potassium glass, potassium soap and other inorganic chemicals, as well as for the removal of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide in industrial gases, and is also used in welding electrodes, ink manufacturing, printing and dyeing industry, etc.
